Families in Camden have the opportunity to star in their very own play. Thanks to a grant received from the Big Lottery Fund’s new Awards for All programme Theatro Technis will bring families from diverse backgrounds together to give them the opportunity to experience the world of theatre and be involved in a real production.
Theatro Technis will engage local families in the production and delivery of a short play. It will run workshops to develop the skills of participants and to promote family values. Under expert guidance, the participating families will be responsible for all aspects of the production. The project will end with a performance of the play to the local community and a post-performance reception to further enhance community integration.
It is hoped that this can provide a starting point for a career or for a lifelong interest in the theatre.
Theatro Technis is looking for families who would like to participate in the project for five weekends starting 25 October and deliver the production on 22 November. They are particularly looking for families of parents and children of any age.

Travel to the land of mice where hardworking little Cindermouse finds love in the arms of a Prince. Reminiscent of the Cinderella story, this enchanting and humorous tale is a classic Little Angel production brought to life for a whole new set of young theatre-goers.
Meet a host of colourful glove and rod puppet characters: the outrageous sisters, the delicate fairy, acrobats who tumble and dancers who twirl to a musical accompaniment.
The show is suitable for age 3 and above, and there will be special Baby Friendly performances on Sunday mornings.
Check out my review of Cindermouse over on Broadway World.

I recently had an impromptu visit to Liverpool and managed to get to see Willie Russell’s Our Day Out at the Liverpool Royal Court. It’s a fabulous show and great fun for all the family and manages to deal with some important issues whilst remaining a hilarious ‘coach ride’.
Our Day Out tells the story of Mrs. Kay’s Progress Class, a special class for those who cannot read or right, who are taken on a day trip to Wales. What mayhem will they unleash on the poor unsuspecting Welsh? Willie Russell has updated the script of his 1977 TV hit to bring it right into the modern ‘classroom’.
Feel free to read my review for Broadway World.

Tall Stories’ hugely popular children’s show The Gruffalo will return to the West End this Christmas for the fourth year in a row. Following its extended season at the Duchess last year, it reopens at the Apollo Theatre on 25 November 2009 for a run until 10 January 2010.

The Gruffalo follows Mouse into the deep dark wood on a hunt for hazelnuts. Armed with just a nut map and a vivid imagination, Mouse runs into wheeler-dealer Fox, retired Woodland Air Force officer Owl, and party animal Snake. Rather than becoming the main course of their next meal, Mouse scares them away with stories of an imaginary monster friend. But what happens when he comes face-to-face with the very creature he imagined?
Tall Stories’ stage show, premiered in 2006, is adapted from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s multiple award-winning book of the same name. In the ten years since it was published in 1999, it has become the biggest-selling picture book ever in Britain, having sold more than four million copies worldwide and been translated into 38 languages. Its sequel The Gruffalo’s Child was named Children’s Book of the Year at the 2005 British Book of the Year Awards.
And while The Gruffalo visits the West End, a new BBC television adaptation of the story is due to be aired on 24 December, featuring the voices of Robbie Coltrane, Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, John Hurt, Tom Wilkinson and James Corden.
